How to Measure Garage Door Dimensions
Measuring garage door dimensions is typically done when replacing an old door or installing a new one. The whole process isn't complicated, but it requires precision down to the millimeter.
Please prepare a steel measuring tape (5 meters or longer), a ladder, a pencil, and paper.
The measurement involves parts as follow:

Core Principles
Measure the actual doorway: Garage doorways are measured by the opening formed by the wall itself, not the location of existing door frames, weatherstripping, or tracks.
Measure multiple times: Take multiple measurements at different locations within the doorway and use the maximum value as the valid dimension (as doorways may be irregular).
Record all dimensions: Clearly record the Width, Height, and Depth (side wall and hideroom).
Use appropriate tools: A metal measuring tape (at least 5 meters or 7.5 meters long) is best. Ensure the tape markings are clear and that the measurement is taut.
Final order size instructions: Different manufacturers have slightly different rules, but in most cases, double garage doors need to be 40-50mm wider than the door opening (to cover the gaps on both sides).
